The Star Baby Blanket is not only bright and fun but also economical. It uses just 1 skein of Lion Brand Ice Cream Big Scoop yarn which is available in 22 gorgeous variegated shades. Although the yarn is a 3-weight (DK/Light Worsted) this means that the blanket is light and ideal for days when there is just a small chill in the air.

However, you can of course use any yarn of your choice, just make sure to use the recommended hook for the type of yarn you decide on. If you intend using a thicker yarn and bigger hook, then your finished item will be a bit larger than the pattern states.

There are very few special stitches but great explanations are given in the pattern.

Special Stitches for the star blanket:

beg-Cl (beg cluster) – Ch 3, yarn over, insert hook in indicated st and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook (2 loops rem on hook); yarn over, insert hook in same st and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook.

Cl (3 double crochet cluster) – Yarn over, insert hook in indicated st, yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook (2 loops rem on hook), (yarn over, insert hook in same st, yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice; yarn over and draw through all 4 loops on hook.

Cl-V (cluster V-stitch) Work (Cl, ch 3, Cl) in indicated sp.

rev sc (reverse single crochet) Single crochet worked from left to right (right to left, if left-handed). Insert hook into next stitch to the right (left), under loop on hook, and draw up a loop. Yarn over and draw through all loops on hook.

Star Baby Blanket PatternAbout the pattern:

  1. The Baby Star Blanket is worked in a ripple pattern in joined rounds with RS always facing.
  2. However, it’s important to remember that you may need to work several rounds before the ripples can be clearly seen.
  3. The ripple pattern consists of alternating peaks and valleys. That is to say, form peaks by working Cl-V in the ch-3 sp of the Cl-V’s in the previous round. Similarly, valleys are formed by skipping the 2 double crochet centered between two peaks.
  4. Mark the valleys at the beginning on Round 5 using Stitch markers. Markers are optional! If you are comfortable “reading” your stitches, you may choose not to use the markers.
  5. Finally, the pattern includes Stitch diagrams for those who find visuals helpful.
