The simple crochet beach bag is done is star stitch which is sturdy and strong enough to hold all your beach gear as well as your favorite book!

Although the pattern calls for Bernat Maker Outdoor yarn which Cait (the designer) felt had the perks of being super-durable. You can literally take it anywhere without worrying about ruining it like you would with a regular yarn. Unfortunately, this yarn has since been discontinued. However, the good news is that an excellent substitute is Bernat Maker Home Dec Yarn or Rico Fashion Jersey (or any bulky-weight cotton).

The crochet beach bag is done using the star crochet stitch but Cait provides very detailed instructions on how to do this. Additionally there are good photos to follow not only for the pattern itself but also for the rope handle placement.

Finishing the handles:

Finally, the bag needs a 1/2″ grommet kit to finish it off. Certainly, this adds extra security to the handle attachment to hold the weight of whatever was in the bag. Additionally, the great thing about the star stitch in this project is it makes its own holes. Normally, you would have to crochet spaces for the grommets to go, but that isn’t necessary in this case.
