First Steps Sampler Baby Blanket is not just a fun and textural blanket for your baby but also the “first steps” apply to the maker! The pattern explores various stitches and techniques.

The recommended yarns are Lion Brand “Pound of Love” (worsted weight – 4) as the main color and uses a pack of Lion Brand “Bonbons” (weight 2 – fine & weight 3 -light) for the accents but the best thing about this pattern is that it is a great stashbuster.

About the pattern:

The First Steps Sampler Baby Blanket is made from 24 Squares sewed together following the Assembly Diagram which is also given in the pattern.

Basically, the embroidery on Squares 4, 5, 6, and 7 is worked freehand. However, you can follow the suggestions for color and design or embroider whatever you like! If desired, cut shapes from paper, pin paper shape to the crocheted square, then embroider around the outside edge of shape. Finally, when your embroidery is done, remove pins and paper.

To change color, work last stitch of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete the stitch. Finally, fasten off old color. Proceed with new
color.

Most of the squares are either single crochet or a combination of single and the half double crochet stitch which are easy enough for any beginner to master!
