When I came across Meg’s Retro Stripes free crochet sweater pattern I just fell in love! Her patterns are amazing and her website is well laid-out and very easy to read. What impressed me most about this pattern was the way she explained how to do the gorgeous ribbing on this sweater. That is to say, it almost looks knitted!
The pattern itself is very simple and only uses half double crochet with a variation of this stitch crocheting into the back loops only for the ribbing. Definitely I also love her choice of yarn – Red Heart Yarn’s new Hygge Charm yarn which has a subtle sparkle! It’s got 16 cool color options, plus the texture of the yarn is soft and airy. Meg has also given 5 size options (s – 2xl).
Super beginner-friendly!
This free crochet sweater pattern is definitely beginner-friendly. That is to say, the body is worked up worked up in one piece and completely made up of half double crochets!
Meg made a medium for myself (that’s her in the pictures), and it’s got plenty of room. She designed it to have a bit of an over-sized look in both the body and the arms. The ribbed mock neck collar is also an awesome touch.
Possibly our favorite part of the sweater is that it’s a very easy, basic pattern where you can let your imagination run wild with different color combinations, stripes, color blocks or a classic single shade.
