It’s a #4 medium weight yarn. Great big box store yarn. although it may feel a little hard before working with it, it softens after washing. However, it does get little balls on (pilling) and should be washed in a laundry bag by itself. Wash initially in cold water with regular detergent (no softening, etc.). Dry it in the dryer and it will definitely turn out softer. Unfortunately, it won’t be as soft as other yarns but the ombre effect is worth the slight difference in softness.
If you are using a pattern, ensure that the pattern calls for worsted weight (4), and use the hook the pattern designer recommends. Some designers specifically use a different hook to obtain a specific texture and not heeding the pattern may change the properties of the item.
