The sedge stitch is great for scarves, baby blankets, and hats. This stitch creates a dense but delicate looking pattern. You only need to know basic crochet knowledge of chaining, single, half double and double crochets to work the sedge stitch.
To get started you will work a chain row in a multiple of 3. Then, starting in the 2nd chain from your hook you will; half double crochet, and double crochet (into the same chain). Skip 2 chains, and work a; single, half double and double crochet in the next chain. Repeat this process across your chain row until you have one chain left. Single crochet in the last chain, turn your work and chain 1.
In that very first single crochet from the previous row you will; half double and double crochet. Then you will repeat the process of working a; single, half double, and double crochet into the next single crochet. (You will be skipping every double and half double crochet stitch, and working exclusively into the single crochets for the remainder of the pattern).
Repeat this process for the remainder of your pattern. You fasten off at the end of your pattern and that’s all there is to it.
